Summon

I identify as an eidolon/spirit that can be bound and summoned as a summon. What does this mean?

In fantasy games there are different kinds of summoned monsters/entities. In some versions the monster is called forth like a minion or pet and will accompany the summoner and fight along side them until the time runs out or they are killed. A different version is that of a powerful summon being called during battle and either hitting with one very strong attack or hanging out for a while doing strong attacks until they return. In the first version a summon either dies or dissapears and likely a different summon will be called next time, while with the second version it is the same entity being called again and again.

While in games, we often follow the summoner, their life, their story and how they summon -- we don't often get to see how being a summon works. Sometimes the summoned being lives in a different dimension and is called forth crossing dimensions, at other times such as the Kingmakers in Ni No Kuni, they hang around and will step forth when it is needed, but what about summons that are only called forth for powerful attacks during battle? What do they do in the rest of their time? How are they summoned? What is it like and what is their life like outside of those brief moments of summoning?

There isn't a lot of information available on this, and I have yet to meet another person identifying as a summon to compare notes to. To me personally, I feel like I can continue my own thing and life when I am bound to a summoner and can appear by their side when summoned, though it is just as likely for me to join them and stay close by their side. When apart, I can see and hear through them and thus know what is happening with and around them. I can slightly feel their emotions and state of being so I know when they are for example hurt or dying. For me to become a summon to someone we enter a sort of contract that can last till death or until a certain goal is reached. I am often sought out as a summon during wars or for quests. I can only become a summon to powerful sapient beings. Their race doesn't matter, but there has to be a reason why they have summon powers. With my abilities, I am also sought out for other reasons. People might just need healing or a change in the weather and I am likely to help out even when not bound to a summoner.

What it's like and what it means to me to be a summon? I can feel a very strong connection of being bound, but I have never felt it to real people only in dreams. On one hand I crave that connection and on the other hand I prefer and wish to be free. It kind of goes back and forth. It is a strange feeling, I guess, to be a powerful entity but to be in submission to another being. This is why I do not just become a summon for anyone. Something horrible can happen to my summoner that changes them drastically and changes their goals and ambition. Instead of doing the good I wish, I can be made to do horrible things. Strangely in that moment, my loyalty and bond to my summoner outweigh my own morals and wishes. It still weighs heavily on my conscience, especially once the contract has ended.

I am really curious to know if there are any other alterhumans or nonhumans with a similar experience. I'd love to learn more about different types of summons and what it is like for them. If you have any questions, or have information on summoned beings, I'd love to hear from you!
