"Places (real or fictional) that feel familiar and integral, similar to other otherhearted experiences. They usually feel like a home to the person that has them, even if they've never lived there (hence the name)." - otherhearted-culture-is on tumblr
My hearthomes are dreams, Final Fantasy IX and the Efteling.
For dreams I'm not going to get into it here, I have a strong connection to dreams in a multitude of ways and as they are really important to me, they feel like home.
The Efteling is a theme park in the Netherlands. It's a dark fantasy theme with fairytales. I've been visiting this place every year since I was born (except a few years when I was too ill) and it means a great deal to me. Being there feels like home, a place where I am excited and happy. Especially the fairytale "de Indische Waterlelies" and the darkride "de Droomvlucht" are deeply embedded in my soul. Both have fairies that I have a strong connection to. Especially the Indische Waterlelies in which story the fairies are stars coming to earth to dance. I always look forward to going again, dream about this place often and just feel a sense of calm when I think of this place.
Final Fantasy IX is a game I've been playing since 2000. The story, the characters, the world all mean a great deal to me. I think about this game every day, see myself within its world and amongst its people. The main characters are like my friends. I love this world so much, it feels real to me. I believe FFix has greatly contributed to my nonhuman feelings. In this world you have dogmen, fishmen, peacock women, people with horns and more. It taught me I could be my true self as a nonhuman.
Other places that mean a lot to me and have been a big part of my life are Middle Earth, Elfquest and Warcraft. These were hearthomes to me in my childhood and teenage years when I identified as an elf. They're all elven places of my youth that have shaped who I am.
