Being Elven

It means I'm nonhuman, separate from society. An other than. Ethereal in my experience. Elf means one with nature and magic. Breathing it as easily as air. It runs in your veins.
Being elven means being lonely. In a time that reflects reality but is separated by a veil. Looking through a mist at humanity. Blurred but familiar. It is recognizing similar souls, but they're far away like stars, glimpsing only light from years past. Miss connect.
Being elven is light. No weight of the world, but the lightness of walking on clouds. Quick footed, sharp witted. It's laughter like chimes. It's accepting the harsh reality but floating out of its reach.
Being elven means so much to me and at the same time is so easy and natural. It's all encompassing and trifling. It's a form of being, in this world and others unlike it.
